liberals hate our troops

The proof is in this headline: Berkeley to Marines: You’re ‘not welcome in our city’

Can you believe that? They’re trying to eject all the marines from Berkeley! Oh wait. They’re protesting the marine recruiters. Thanks, CNN, for your unbiased clarity.

Congrats to Iraq on winning the Asian cup. I know this because of people driving down 2nd celebrating waving around the Iraqi flag. I guess you take your victories where you can get them..

responsibility

Kay Brooks:

I’m very concerned for our troops in Iraq and the Iraqi people. With Nancy Pelosi in charge of the purse strings this is when Iraq could become another Vietnam. We can’t let our troops down or the freedom loving Iraqi people. I don’t want to look at the Afghanis if we let them down again.

Did you catch that? Less than 24 hours with a Democrat-controlled congress (well, House, for now), and the clusterfuck we call Iraq is already the Democrats’ fault. That was fast!

Scott Helvenston

total body workout

I was looking for a workout DVD I had by a guy named Scott Helvenston — it was a “Navy SEAL” workout that was a good tour of basic calisthenics stuff, but I only had it on VHS.

While looking, I just learned that Scott Helvenston was one of the four contractors for Blackwater security that were killed, mutliated and burned in Fallujah back in 2004.

That’s depressing

fake IDs save lives

Apparently sectarian killings in Iraq have gotten bad enough that people are resorting to fake identification to avoid being identified and killed at checkpoints for being Sunni or Shiite.

There’s a fairly spectacular collection of quotes here. This one stood out:

“This will be no war — there will be a fairly brief and ruthless military intervention…. The president will give an order. [The attack] will be rapid, accurate and dazzling…. It will be greeted by the majority of the Iraqi people as an emancipation. And I say, bring it on.”

fly paper

Remember the “fly paper” theory? You know, the one that developed a few years ago as a response to the increasing likelihood that Iraq would turn into a giant mess (who could have seen that coming?!). It posited that even if it did turn into a giant mess, that would be okay, because it would be like “fly paper” to the terrorists that want to kill us, and that way the war on terror, like many other unsavory byproducts of capitalism, could be outsourced offshore. Brilliant!

So now comes some half-baked report that IEDs coming over the Iraq border. Does this serve as proof that the “flypaper” theory is working? I would think so, but no. Evidently, instead, it means that Iran is responsible, and now we have to invade them. Sweet!! More war!!

It’s hard to take this most recent spat of war-fetishist cheerleading too seriously, as a war in Iran is logistically impossible at this point, not to mention freaking insane. But for the record, I think it would be good to clear up a few things:

mmm, choco-rations

Quote of the day comes from Kevin Carson:

It reminds me of Krauthammer or some other neocon dirtbag, after the invasion of Iraq, who ridiculed the shorter work weeks and longer vacations of Europeans. “We” prefer, he said, to work longer hours and take shorter vacations, so that “we” can produce more carrier groups to send to the Gulf. Well, sorry. I don’t take any vicarious pride in Oceania being able to put another floating fortress off the Malabar front. I want my fucking choco-rations.
