Sophie Scholl

I am really looking forward to seeing Sophie Scholl - The Last Days. It looks like a well-made movie, and I had a weird semi-creepy crush on Sophie Scholl once, the same as any red-blooded Nazi-hater would.

Tristram Shandy

We went to see Tristram Shandy last week.

I don’t have a complicated review here: It was thoroughly enjoyable. Honestly, I went in expecting postmodern wankery, and instead I got a movie that was pretty hilarious and lighthearted. I would consider even seeing it a second time.

flags

An interesting emergence from the immigration debate is the topic of flags. In this post, Rev entions Aztlan, while Aunt B notes the parallels between this flag-flying and the flying of the confederate flag.

So, I ask:

I marched along with the immigration protestors tonight — well, about 100 yards in front of them most of the way, taking terrible pictures. Metroblogs post here, and terrible pictures here.

tabor video

— Chris @ 10:07 am

The CBPP produced this video as an introduction to some of the harmful effects that Colorado experienced as a result of its TABOR TEL legislation. Despite a few gratuitous uses of scare words, it’s otherwise pretty evenhanded and thorough. You can find more information about TABOR, including a longer version of this video at CBPP’s TABOR series page.

nashville immigration march

— Chris @ 9:07 am

Downtown Nashville will be playing host to an immigration march/rally tonight:

The march, organized by the Tennessee Immigration and Refugee Rights Coalition, will start at the Coliseum at 6 p.m., cross the Woodland Street Bridge and follow Union Street to Sixth Avenue North, ending up at War Memorial Plaza for a rally.

“We think this will be the biggest event in the South,” said David Lubell, state director of the coalition. Lubell said he expects 2,000 to 4,000 participants.

Come on out and show your support.

Oh Taylor. You didn’t bring it. What’s with the leather jacket and the hipster t-shirt? This isn’t you. You didn’t twitch at all.

Ah well, it was still one of the better performances. Paris rocks, and Mandisa brought it.

This night goes to Elliot, though. I predict that he will win. And if he doesn’t win, I predict that he should have won.

more immigration rambling

I was making one last comment on a thread at NiT and it somehow got long (i hate it when that happens). I think we’re actually coming to some sort of agreement here, or something close to it. So, while Katherine and Sarcastro seem really keen on the whole Hayekian rule of law thing, we nonetheless seemed to be closing in on agreement that current law and many of the proposals are unenforceable — a conclusion that has a lot of important ramifications. So, to clarify, a roughly outline of where I stand, in which I assume I lose some of you along the way:

My punning blog titles are starting to annoy even me. I commented to Amanda that I have no love for blog titles, but wordpress requires them. I’d prefer to just number them. /2006/03/27/1. What’s wrong with that?

Anyways, congrats to Kleinheider for landing a gig as a new WKRN blogger. He called me a yuppie marxist. Aww, shucks.

flags

Glen Dean makes an attempt to paint the protestors in Los Angeles as anti-American, or as an invading force, or .. something:

If these immigrant protesters were trying to get support for their movement, I think they made a serious error in judgment. Being descendants of immigrants ourselves, most Americans are generally sympathetic to the immigrant who is “just trying to make a better life”. But when individuals, who are in this country illegally, hold mass demonstrations, making demands, while waving the flag of their native country, the sympathy is “considerably less so”.

Sometimes pictures are worth a thousand words:
